The
UNITED HELLENIC WOMEN CLUB, which is taking its first steps towards empowering
women of the Greek and Cypriot diaspora as well as those with ties to Greece or
Cyprus, participated actively this year in the United Nations campaign UNiTE,
which focuses on combating digital violence against women. The campaign started
on November 25 and lasted for 16 days.
In
this context, on Saturday November 29, from 11.30 - 17.30, in the center of
Brussels (OLD HACK, Rue Joseph II, 176, 1000 Brussels - opposite Berlaymont),
took place a Mini Marathon of readings that illuminated and highlighted the
phenomenon of violence against women. The readings were accompanied by a
photographic event and the entire campaign was broadcast online.
The
action brought together approximately 200 participants - women and men - from
every corner of the world: Greece, Cyprus, Belgium, the Netherlands, England,
the USA, the United Arab Emirates and other countries. Texts were read that
spoke of the fear and silence experienced by many women, but also of their
resilience, dignity and struggle for justice, safety and respect.
